AeroAstro Set to Install Globalstar Data Processor
June 4, 2007 - Space News
AeroAstro, Inc. is ready to install the latest production unit of a device that satellite operator Globalstar uses to process signals for its Simplex Data Service asset tracking service, AeroAstro of Ashburn, Va., announced in a May 29 press release.
The newest Sensor Enabled Notification System (SENS) Applique completed testing at AeroAstro's headquarters during the second week of May and will be installed at an unidentified Globalstar ground station in June, AeroAstro said.
The SENS Applique system decodes and processes asset tracking and monitoring signals that are sent by tiny field transmitters via the Globalstar low Earth orbiting satellite constellation, AeroAstro said. After being processed, the signals are transmitted to customers via the Internet.
The devices already are installed on Globalstar ground stations covering the Americas, Europe, Asia and western Australia, AeroAstro said. This latest Applique will be the tenth installed, AeroAstro spokeswoman, Kim Irving said in a written response to questions.
"Each time we install a new Applique we expand the Simplex Data Service by the coverage area of the ground station," Irving said.
