Alan Ladwig Joins AeroAstro Board of Directors

Herndon, VA – February 10, 2000

AeroAstro, Inc., the world's premier small satellite technology company, has named Alan Ladwig to its Board of Directors. The appointment was approved at AeroAstro's quarterly board meeting in Palo Alto, California.

Ladwig is currently Assistant to the Chairman and Director of Washington Operations for Space.com, a multi-media, internet-based company dedicated to space-related content. Prior to joining Space.com in 1999, Ladwig was a White House appointee at NASA Headquarters where he served as Senior Advisor to the Administrator, Dan Goldin. He also served as Associate Administrator for the Office of Policy and Plans where he was responsible for the coordination of Agency policy positions, the NASA Strategic Plan, and the NASA Advisory Council.

Dr. Rick Fleeter, President and CEO of AeroAstro, said, "We are excited about the addition of Alan to our team, to help us implement our vision of a true space revolution driven by micro and nanosatellites. His impressive experience and skills will enable AeroAstro to expand both the traditional and the commercial space frontier with our unique mix of capable technologies and affordable applications."

From 1991 to 1993, Ladwig was Senior Policy Analyst for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). During the 1980's, Ladwig held a variety of positions at NASA Headquarters, including Director of Special Projects for the Office of Exploration and Manager of several Shuttle Programs, as well as serving on the Administrator's Long-Range Planning Task Force. He has been awarded the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, and two NASA Exceptional Service Medals.

"I look forward to the opportunity to help expand awareness of AeroAstro's unique capabilities for research, exploration, and development. As a company that has been on the cutting edge of the faster-better-cheaper revolution, AeroAstro is paving the way for missions that feature immediacy and relevance," said Ladwig.

AeroAstro, a pioneer of micro- and nano-spacecraft applications in science, remote sensing, and communications, is a leader in innovative small satellite applications that open the space frontier. It led the trend towards "smaller, better, cheaper, faster" spacecraft - that is now NASA's mantra - with its highly successful ALEXIS satellite begun in 1988 and currently in its seventh year operating on-orbit.

AeroAstro is now leading the way to a new age of commercial space with flexible tools that enable new users to benefit from unprecedented access to space technology. AeroAstro has designed, constructed, tested and supported the launch of several small satellites. It completed numerous spacecraft systems programs and manufactures low-cost small rocket engines, nano-satellites and spacecraft components. NASA, the Air Force, and commercial and university customers have all employed AeroAstro throughout its 11-year history.
