Making Space For Everyone
AeroAstro was founded in 1988 by Dr. Rick Fleeter to harness the power of microspace for both government and commercial applications. Two examples of this philosophy in practice are our new ESPA-class spacecraft and our satellite communications system:
AeroAstro's STPSat-1 is the first microsatellite built to specifically exploit the new ESPA (EELV Secondary Payload Adaptor) multi-mission launch capability. ESPA is a ring placed between a launch vehicle and primary payload which mechanically supports small secondary spacecraft. It provides launch accommodations for up to six small satellites. AeroAstro's ESPA-class spacecraft can piggyback on a primary launch. This capability allows for significantly improved space access for secondary payloads.
Sensor Enabled Notification System
AeroAstro's Sensor Enanble Notification System (SENS) uses LEO satellites to provide a communications link for asset tracking and remote monitoring applications. This system provides communication coverage in areas that are not supported by traditional cellular and RF methods. AeroAstro designed the system to be inexpensive so that more people could benefit from the power of satellite communications. SENS is used by both government and commercial customers. For example, FEMA used SENS based trackers to monitor the location and status of its deployed assets in the aftermath of Hurricaine Katrina.
AeroAstro remains committed to improving access to space and space technologies.
